PROJECT OVERVIEW
ESQ provided the civil engineering detailed design for the concrete floodway located on Netherby Road and Dakins Road in Gundiah.
Funding was approved under the Natural Disaster Relief and Recovery Arrangements (NDRRA) Betterment program for the floodway following re-occurring damage of the road network during the Queensland floods of 2011 and 2013.
The works involved the design of 800 metres of concrete floodway and cross-drainage culverts to replace the existing bitumen sealed roadway.

CHALLENGES & SOLUTIONS
The project was funded under the NDRRA ‘Betterment’ program, which was introduced after the 2013 floods to rebuild essential infrastructure to be more resilient rather than just reinstate them to the same standard they were previously. The funding approved under this arrangement was a fixed amount, so the project scope had to be accurate enough to not only avoid exceeding the approved value, but also to get the most value from it.
ESQ worked closely with Council officers to initially scope the works but also identified and resolved potential cost savings during the detailed design process which resulted in the limit of works being extended further.
OUTCOME
ESQ’s involvement in the project resulted in the development being delivered on time and within the approved funding.
